Today is International Women’s Day, and the theme (in case you weren’t aware) is Gender Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.
It sounds great doesn’t it? As a young woman, I think so!
In true Bahamian fashion, sometimes I have to breakdown phrases to really “make it, make sense”:
- Equality is as it sounds- equal; women & men want to be equal with their rights, status and of course opportunities
- Sustainability, more specifically sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (IISD).
It is with this in mind that we chose today to highlight a local SUSTAINABLE champion – often found right in her own backyard, and community partner in one of our latest DEVELOPMENT projects- Farmer Collette Williams.

We can break the bias in our workplaces.
We can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities.
Together, we can all break the bias – on International Women’s Day (IWD) and beyond.
